Losing your luggage while traveling is a nightmare, but Apple is stepping up to make it easier to track your belongings in real time—even allowing airlines to help you out directly. This Monday, Apple rolled out "Share Item Location," a new iOS feature that lets users share live locations of lost or misplaced items with third parties, like airlines. It's a game-changer for frequent travelers and works with AirTags and other accessories using Apple's Find My network.

With Share Item Location, users simply open the Find My app, select an item, and create a link that shows its real-time location on a map. Once shared, the recipient can view the item's live location on an interactive map that updates whenever it moves, making it super easy to track a lost item in motion. For travelers dealing with lost luggage, it's a small relief to know that you can now pinpoint your missing bags directly and pass that information to airline staff for faster recovery.

Apple's Eddy Cue, senior vice president of Services, shared the company's vision for this new feature, saying it combines the effectiveness of the Find My network and AirTags with added convenience. "With Share Item Location, we're excited to give users a new way to easily share this information directly with third parties like airlines, all while protecting their privacy," he said. Apple promises that all shared location data remains encrypted and anonymous, and the location link will automatically expire once you're reunited with your items.

Many travelers have already been using AirTags to track misplaced luggage and speed up its recovery on their own. But now, Apple is officially teaming up with more than 15 airlines to integrate this service into their customer support. These airlines—like British Airways, Delta, Lufthansa, and Virgin Atlantic—are set to adopt the feature in the coming months, allowing for more seamless luggage tracking and helping you get your belongings back faster.

So, the next time you're rushing through an airport or dealing with misplaced baggage, you might have more control over where your things are—thanks to Apple.
