We've all heard the phrase, "Looking at the world through rose-colored glasses," but if Meta has its way, we'll look at the world through AI-powered glasses.

That's the plan anyway, but what are we talking about?

For those of you old enough to remember those x-ray specs advertised in the back of comics, this should be a whole lot more advanced.

The plan: Meta is investing big dollars in highly immersive AR glasses for a world the company envisions without smartphones.

We can hear a collective gasp. No smartphones!

There's currently a lot of buzz about Meta's new Ray Ban Smart Glasses, which have a camera, built-in speakers, and even the ability to answer your phone calls. That's all impressive enough, but that's child's play to Meta. They're thinking much bigger.

According to Andrew Bosworth, Meta's CTO and head of its Reality Labs division, Meta's AR glasses could be "the most advanced piece of technology on the planet."

Bragging much?

He goes on to say, "In the domain of consumer electronics, it might be the most advanced thing that we've ever produced as a species."

That's pretty bold, considering some advancements we've already seen as a species.

Before you gear up to grab a pair, remember that these super-powered glasses won't likely be ready before the decade's end. The project, known as "Project Nazare," hopes a prototype will be ready by 2024, with lighter, more advanced designs scheduled for 2026 and 2028.

One of the biggest hurdles is making clear, cost-effective, high-quality displays. Meta is currently trying to create "new materials" for the glasses and working on a way to keep them powered up so users won't need to keep charging them as often.

One thing is sure. The hyper-advancement of AI will make designing these super glasses a lot easier than even a couple of years ago. At the rate we're going, these new AR glasses will have you saying, "Made in the shade" in no time.
